Rating System for Mods?

I'd like to see a system return to the score out of 100 that used to be at PES. To moniter such a system put in place a 'any score below 10/100' gets an auto review, or something, to prevent the dreaded '1 star bandits'.

I'm not sure on the comment to vote scenario. It's hard enough to get people interacting without asking them to use their words. I'd fing it useful and I'd like to give some feedback that can help, at a glance give support to mods I like. Plus, there the benefit of hitting for the monthly win and maybe a leaderboard. Could be awesome.  

Of course it all has to be put together by the crew here, so to float the idea    is not where the work would be.

I have a few things to say, so this post is going to be long, but its something I have thought about as well.

I do not agree with the idea purely on a lack of regular audience, and participatory down-loaders.
The featured mods at GHF were already produced by people who know what they are doing, and those files uploaded on MMH are mostly from authors who have moved on from Morrowind modding, or modding in general.
There is still so much work to be done, going through MMH files, organizing tracking down mods that are lost to the internetz. XD
My two cents is that we don't have enough people, and regular participants to set up the kind of system at PES. There were scores of people who came to the site and participated. This site has its Life long members, its people that leave come back and leave again for whatever reason (myself included XD) and people who show up a few times. The rest are pure down-loaders. Also the majority of files uploaded at MMH are people trying to log old mods they found, or at least make their old mods available since PES, Elric, etc went down.  Most of the modders whose files are up aren't even modding anymore, so posting advice etc would be mostly pointless. If we did have more new uploads, and a decent participatory audience I would support it. Its something that Nexus certainly lacks >:( And I solidly believe part of the reason for the plethora of crappy crap-tastic mods on that site If there is no way to give criticism then quality control goes out the window! But what you are wanting I just don't see happening here due to numbers etc...

However, I do propose to our MMH staff, that if we see a broken mod, or a mod that could use adjustment without hurting the intention of the mod, I think we should be able to fix the issue. With it noted on the mod. Or perhaps a noted alternate file? Just a thought.
For example, I have been really tempted to translate and move the building of this one French file that was on my old hd I found, its already on MMH...but it puts the building partly inside Korana's Provincial Bath mod. Which given the mod most people without modding experience wouldn't mess with fixing it, given the choice between some clothing and Korana's bath collection. Just a thought. I know it goes against the whole preserve but don't touch, but for our newer players trying to find mods is hard enough, let alone trying to fix issues between mods.
It would also give a chance for people like you Crank, to actively make the MMH as a whole a little less buggy experience. Just a thought though, if its voted down by MMH I understand.

My other thought is this Crank. I started up a Mod review section but I ended up having to leave quite prematurely due to multiple RL reasons and time constraints. I have been thinking about starting it up again since I have more free time but I wasn't sure if I could do one a week and still work on DRUMM as much as I need to...so if you are interested I would be happy to trade off with you  
 You could start, or I could start whichever. Do an every other week switch. Check out how I did this one, and see if its up your alley at all. Of course your review would be your own style but we could keep the uniformed rating system. And if MMH team wasn't for bug fixing etc, you could also go into a little of how an issue or two could be fixed in CS. Anyways lemme know what you think. I would be happy to team up with you, and with us rotating weeks it would ensure i had enough time to get my mod stuff done    ^^ Here is the review. viewtopic.php?f=98&t=4358

Keep in mind too, that if it fits a theme you could do a review of a few smaller mods at once. I have screen shots for my Necro one... It was Hell House, something with liches and summoning undead. For the life of me I don't remember the titles of the others...the article is lost but I have the screens...what's up with that?

This has been discussed at length amongst the Mouths, Magisters, High Magisters, and Archmagister. The decision was reached that there is not going to be a rating system. Many reasons were given for, and against, and though there are far fewer active members here then there was when we discussed this I believe that some of the reasons are still valid. Sorry to say I was against it at the time due to the huge amount of Trolling Mods got over at PES when PES was still active, and I wanted to avoid such things happening here.
having said that when uploading a mod to GHF Downloads there is an option that allows for people to leave feed back on the mods that they Download, and it is enabled by default when mods are uploaded. It gets almost zero usage. Most people download the mod, and then never return to the mod page to leave the feed back.
Another thing that is available in the Mod upload page is that you can link your mod to a REL thread which people can then leave comments on too. Again not very many people bother to comment on those either, with the exception of things like "Gratz on the RelZ, Grabbed".
Most folks tend to leave a short comment in Chat if the mod author is available to talk to in the Chat Box, but other then that most mods get grabbed, and the authors sit and wonders how people like their mods. I really do not think that a rating system would even get very much use with the few regular users we have here at the present point in time.

As for a rating system on MMH. I have to say that the point there would be misplaced. As it has been stated that MMH is a Mod Archive, and not really an active uploading site. Though there are authors that tend to upload new versions of their mods to MMH, and then ask us to remove the older version from MMH, (which we at Great House Fliggerty are against, and really do not want to do). So a rating system on MMH is most likely out of the question.

I also agree on your points. I just want to make sure I'm being understood though, I am talking about mod reviews, not a PES system etc. Just making sure that's clear.
As for fixing bug issues etc...is there any possible option for that? I can understand if MMH staff just wants to keep it an archive, but I have seen comments about fixed esps, cleaning gmsts etc. Seems like taking it a little further might be helpful. But again its just a question/suggestion. I'm not trying to make waves

Well that would depend upon the current Senior Curator. There was one for a while that would like for us to upload a fixed version along with the original, but then we had another, and then another, and each Senior Curator likes things done a different way. Current SC likes to allow people to Upload new updated mods, but instead of deleting the old he likes to have them put as additional files on the Download page.
I have no issue with a mod Review thread. By all means go right ahead with it.
I was just mentioning that the rating system that was proposed by Crank most likely will not happen.
Though if all the staff ever got together to discuss it again, it does not mean that the same decision would be reached again.

Agreed.  The comment feature aren't used what it should have been and I admit I never thought about leaving a comment then return back just to read what the author or someone else have posted a reply.

I think chat weren't meant to be a place to leave a comment about a mod you have downloaded, but if chat would have that kind of function then I would probably never comment a mod since I don't use chat never has.

Yes.  MMH will never have a rating system since it's what you have just mention an archive of old/lost mods or if anyone prefer to call MMH as a permanent home for every created mod(s).  MMH is also for modders who want to donate their mods to MMH due for being a final version or a modder(s) have retired from modding, but are still active in the community.
