Wow, seems I am not the only one with a Romance Mod heartbreak.
Mine are threefold:
One, when I had my character Swiftbow pick up Luthien Morvayn at the Fighters guild, and after a Morrowind month of so engaged a little intimacy via the MCA option. Was quite nice actually.
But later that day, I went upstairs at a tavern after telling her to wander a bit, and saw my first courtesan. Had no real intention of truly having at the bedfellow, but never having seen the dialogue, I clicked at the comments.
Disastrous mistake. Got an immediate freeze of the screen, and a dialogue window pops up from Luthien saying "YOU BASTARD!! Was I THAT bad in bed?? I thought I meant something to you, but I see I don't. Well, just have your fun, I will right down here when you're finished."
I backed away from the screen, embarrased, at which the Mrs peered over the shoulder and laughed heartily with the "naughty, naughty" finger crossing. I didn't take advantage of the courtesan, even picked up Luthien and walked out on her, but the damage was done. She was righted pissed, and although would still be a fighting companion, wanted absolutely nothing to do with me as a friendly companion. When the Mrs tried the same thing, on purpose with her own character, her companion walked right out on her, stating "Ugh!, you slept with an Orc!" My turn for laughter.
The second one was very sad. I had used the Romance Mod to engage my favorite companion, Ingred Rems of the Dome Home mod, to marry. Was wonderful. Had her as a companion/wife from prison freedom all the way to the end of the main quest. There were three children; Velfhe, Wulfgar, and Brietta, and the Ascadian Rose Cottage was a flur of familial love. Then, I created a new character , and after a few weeks had him start a life in the same way. When I loaded my first character, the screen came up "Your Romance is Over", and I was stunned. The character was straight arrow, hadn't gone to a courtesan or new romance, but it was over, boom. Later I find out that sometimes there is a glitch where it seems you can only have one full romance on one Morrowind system. Even if you have multiple characters, it ends the Romance on your unloaded character. After all that time, no more contact. It was as if I was a ghost in my own home. Just the infant kids were still reactive, but Ingred just walked about ignoring the character in full. That was painful.
Last one was with the character that I had been inspired to write the Lokken fanfic, Dandowin. I had installed Rogues on the system, and was plagued day and night with attacks from Rogues and all sorts during his life. Jumped at some of the worst of times, like when I was fighting Hircine at the end of Bloodmoon. But after level 20, I retired Dandowin to mere clean up quests and doing what he can for the peoples of Lokken. After freeing Larenna and her family in the mod, he settled in to a great life of jaunts about the island, loving his newfound wife, mother-in-law, and new scripted wee ones, Solvieg and Lena. Daring to risk the Romance Mod again, and with no others otherwise engaged, he and Laurenna were enjoying the full on looks of her getting quite round, just like in the fanfic.
But then, at level20, Rogues kicked in with the most vicious of adversaries, 3 to 6 DarkBrotherhood assassins with legal scripts with his name on it, and poison paralytic blades. It was on a cold Lokken night, the children were sent to bed and Dandowin walked throughout the castle to say goodnight to all, from maids to guards. When he got to the master bedroom, Emma's kiss animation kicked in and she walked over from the window, gave him a kiss, and as usual asked "My love.." and "What can I do for you?" Since this was after the birth, he got a present for her. He had bought a nice Aleanne dancer dress, so placed it on her, got him into his night robe, and watched her dance in the new outfit. Just then, I hear "I HAVE YOUUUUU!!" and six of these assassins appear. He got hit in succession with their blades, so he was paralyzed. Just then, she stops her dancing animation and tries to slug it out with the other three assassins, and then got killed right before poor Dandowin's eyes. I had no idea at all about the Console "Resurrect" command, so again, like Ingred, this was painful. Just then, when he was free again, he slew all of them, and mourned(candles and body disposal). I got Dandowin dressed, put on the Barlizar's Ring, and ran straight from the temple to the Dark Brotherhood lair. In a repeat of his earlier actions, I made sure that not only was nothing left alive, but I took fire from the Furniture Mod and laid flame to every restocked body that I could.
After that, I removed Rogues from the system and started a new Dandowin, from scratch, but taking the same history...first exploration, then questing, then retiring to family life in Lokken with ice, snow, and hope. But unlike before, I now make sure that I purchase the Resist Paralysis spell, and with the legal spellmaking, soultrapped the spell to myself at 100% resistance. Comes in very handy with the likes of many wizards and fauna that paralyze. Since then, I always engage and befriend Shareel, the half-Daedra from the MCA mod, because she is as lethal as she is interesting to look upon. When I am surrounded or encumbered, she takes out adversaries excellently. I'm tempted to write her life story fanfic, if I could find who was the originator on the MCA team and ask their permission as I did with Emma.
"At the steering board I sit, the sea winds in our face as my friends row. I look to you my kinswoman, at the bow, your hair blows about catching the sunset. Your smile warm, eyes blue as the water beneath us. Our adventure awaits."
