I had heard, unsubstantiated of course, that it was going to be Hammerfell.
I don't care which as long as they do better than Oblivion.

Hammerfell? Now that's new... I think TR's doing fine by itself, though.

Maybe, but TR isn't Bethesda.

What? That's a ridiculous thought! They wouldn't have the Bethesda Blog with modder interviews if they didn't care about us, heck, we are a huge reason why their games are so successful.

They don't care about us individually though.

Do you seriously think Bethesda would set the next game in a different province simply because modders have already made a province? I don't know about you, but I don't. As for thier blogs and whatnot, that's mostly lip service. Sure they're appreciative, but Miserina summed it up best, they don't give a hoot about us as individuals and don't care about us as much as you may think they do.

I'm going to bed, Bethesda. When I wake up, I want news of you having heard my wish, and making a better TES game. I don't give a damn about physics, facegen, voiced dialog or AI. Just give me a freaking real RPG, and not a First-Person-Swordfest!

Still not sure how Bethesda will pull of attracting the console crowd, then turning back to its roots. I highly doubt they'd do such. They need to be "cutting edge" now. This means voiced dialog, even though it ruins mod immersion and can be bland, as well as a slew of other useless features that overall subtract from the overall experience of a so-called "RPG".

I'm going to bed, Bethesda. When I wake up, I want news of you having heard my wish, and your intentions to move back to your roots.

<.< It's half past 4 am... I'm not even sure what I'm writing, but the point is that I want something more Morrowind-y, and less Oblivion-y!

Oh no!
I saw that they purchased elderscrollsonline.com and acquired the rights to use Simutronics’ HeroEngine (designed for making MMO titles).  I guess we'll see if 1 +1 = 2.

Now I'm REALLY scarred.
I would die if those l337 speakers of MMOs crawled into the ES community. Didn't Oblivion give us enough of those?

Oh, and unless Bethesda is playing a trick on us, it's taking place in Skyrim.
MK wrote some Nordic creation myth or something.
And:
A helpful fellow named Luke drops me a line about the discovery that Bethesda’s owners Zenimax have apparently recently trademarked the following for clothing, video games, documentation and telecommunication respectively:

Serial Number Reg. Number
1 77051779 SKYRIM
2 77017500 SKYRIM
3 77044247 SKYRIM
4 77022291 SKYRIM

Which rather suggests TES5 will be set in Skyrim, chilly home of the fighty Nords. Which perhaps sounds a little plain, but hopefully a good opportunity for environments rather different to Oblivion’s lush forestry.

I'm not impressed with the storyline in Fallout.  I think it could be a lot better.  I think I'll wait till the modding community gets involved in it before I try to do anything with it.

Anything said about TES 2010 now will probably be different later.  Bethsoft realizes that the fans and the modders can make or break a game, so I would expect to see a 'moddable' game with a Construction set that actually works.  Oblivion's construction set (2nd attempt) is almost good enough. It works, but not well.  I hope to get something better if TES 2010 becomes real.

As to location, I prefer Summerset Isle or Daggerfall itself (or both).  Lots of 'Lore' in those places. Skyrim is waay too cold.

I prefer warm weather anyway ...

:)

Hells yeah.

I would prefer the far west coast (I think that's where it is, anyways). With offshore strange civilizations and what not... with modern fluid sim water (a la Mercs 2), we could do insane stuff with hurricanes and magic effects ("Part Water"!).

I see I have a lot of companion "wishers for Summerset Isles" for TES:V. I also wished for it to be the setting of TES:IV like others here. When Oblivion was actually set in Cyrodiil my hubby and I hoped for expansions that might link Cyrodiil with other provinces such as Valenwood or Elsweyr thus making it like a modernday Arena if all the mainland provinces were added. But alas, some said that dream would've been too large to run on most computers.

The Skyrim setting for TES:V would be okay with me as long as the game is well done .. much more like Morrowind than Oblivion. Fast travel be damned if it's just going to lead to cookie-cutter sameness in the wilderness and dungeons outside of towns.

At times when I watch the hubby playing FallOut 3 I could swear it is Oblivion but a much altered Cyrodiil and with better physics so it seems. I guess its only some of the wilderness parts of FO3 that appear like that. I'm sure that Bethesda and Zenimax are capable of delivering another fine game of near Morrowind caliber if they take their time and don't rush it and not bow to consolitis and commercialism over gaming excellence.

Personally I'd rather wait one or two years more and have a game akin to Morrowind to play but with modern graphics/physics engines than a rushjob like Oblivion. And I've already been warned about stating such opinions at the official boards; but I say what I like there too. And have never been called on it.

THat's becuase we're not slaves to the man!  :nanadance:

Actually, it's probably because most of us agree with you, Ibis.   As for TESV, it'll be what it'll be. If it sucks, we still have Morrowind. If it's good, well, we'll have another game.

Would be awesome to have another great TES game. My faves have always been Morrowind and Arena with Daggerfall next.

I should add that it was somebody here although I forget who who gave me a caution not to speak of preferring Morrowind at BFSF. But you are right Jac, there are too many of us of that opinion to be silenced.

And Steph my hubby has started modding for FO3. He has one he callls LAW - Light Armor & Weapons Mod and he just did one where he really beefed up Dogmeat's defenses/offensives and made him an essential character who cannot die. And thank you for that link you gave concerning TES:V news.

I'd like to mod for Fallout III .. I just haven't done everything I want for Oblivion yet.

You mentioned something about Valenwood and the provinces surrounding Cyrodiil ...

here's my answer to that. I made a few house mods about a year ago and set one in Valenwood, and one in Morrowind. "Borderless Cyrodiil" (by Rendelius) opens up the other provinces so you can wander in to them a short distance.  If you go too far, you'll fall off the map tho ..

my house mods:

requires Borderless Cyrodiil:

I wouldn't be surprised if Bethsoft is just trademarking all of the province names one by one. Just in case.
Personally I'd like to play a game set in Argonia, or those far off islands with the snake-men.

If FO3 hadn't been made, though, I wouldn't even have any hope for TES 5. Obliv was a huge letdown.

Yep, I'd like to see Argonia more than any other province. Those Argonian fellows are just fascinating.
Besides, it's the Black Marshes. Everyone knows how I feel about swamps.

I want to revisit Morrowind, even though that won't happen. I don't even care about the unavoidably bad story-line they'll put in; I just LOVE Morrowind's atmosphere and culture.
