Exciting news today for Elder Scrolls fans. On September 10th (and September XX in Europe), we’ll be releasing The Elder Scrolls Anthology on PC. This premium box set (shown above) includes all five main games from the series – Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim – as well all the official add-ons and expansions for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.
To help you explore the expansive world of Tamriel, the Anthology also features a set of five physical maps detailing the lands of Tamriel, Iliac Bay, Morrowind, Cyrodiil and Skyrim.
In case you haven’t been with us since 1994, here’s a recap of all five titles that will be included in the $79.99 package (€59.99 / £49.99 / $89.99AUD)

Arena – Assume the role of a lone prisoner and travel to Tamriel’s most famous and dangerous sites to collect the shattered Staff of Chaos and save the Empire from the evil Imperial battlemage, Jagar Tharn. The Anthology features the original version of Arena and will launch within a DOS emulator.

Daggerfall – The ancient golem Numidium, a powerful weapon once used to unify Tamriel has once again been unearthed. In the power struggle that follows, the King of Daggerfall is murdered and his vengeful spirit haunts the kingdom. The Emperor Uriel Septim VII sends you on a heroic path to put the king’s spirit to rest and ensure that the golem does not fall into the wrong hands. The Anthology features the original version of Daggerfall and will launch within a DOS emulator.

Morrowind – To fulfill an ancient prophecy, the Emperor sends you, an unknown Imperial courier, to the island of Vvardenfell to rid the land of Morrowind of a dark curse. Through a series of dangerous and magical quests, you are transformed into one of the Empire’s most enduring heroes. Also includes: Tribunal and Bloodmoon add-ons, plus The Elder Scrolls Construction Set.

Oblivion – With the Empire ready to crumble, the gates of Oblivion open and demons march upon the land. In the shadow of evil, a hero will rise from the ashes of a fallen Empire. You must find the true heir of the Septim line and restore him to the Imperial throne, while unraveling the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel. Also includes: Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions.

Skyrim – Dragons, long lost to the passages of the Elder Scrolls, have returned to Tamriel. The future of Skyrim, even the Empire itself, hangs in the balance as they wait for the prophesized Dragonborn to come; a hero born with the power of The Voice, and the only one who can stand amongst the dragons. Also includes: Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn add-ons.

Interesting. A lot of good questions are raised though in all the comments down below.

In other words, they're going to take a break from Elder Scrolls.  That's what it sounds like to me - wrapping it up for now, BBL.  Could be reading it wrong, but I don't think so.  Quite disappointing they decided to abandon the last ES XP.  That would have been great - I just know spears would have finally be added...

They also made a post on IGN that explains a little bit better the contents of the anthology, although I personally take extreme exception to calling Tribunal and Bloodmoon DLCs.  They were expansions.  They pre-date the term DLC, and actually at their release time were on available only on disc and were NOT downloadable.

Rather than "goodbye" We think this says "we need money".
One dear to me just found a crap ton of games all grouped together on steam UK from Bethesda for 90.

That is probably the Quakecon pack, which is a whole bunch of games bundled together to celebrate Quakecon.

True, but some things - such as steam - do not have a category for Expansion Packs.  Thus, it's easier to call all post-launch content dlc.  I think its ridiculous too, but I don't blame IGN/Beth for that. Gotta simplify the vocabulary.

I don't see why they're neglecting Redguard and Battlespire. Redguard was great, and I've heard Battlespire was good too. And whey aren't they at least doing a little something to upgrade the graphics on the older titles. I know some people may think it unnecessary, but the least they could do is sharpen some of the textures on Daggerfall/Arena, and while they're at it, patch some of the still-broken stuff in them. And seriously, they're going to throw in DosBox to run the older games? Why don't they go ahead and recompile them for modern OS's (While they're updating the graphics)? I think Spirited is right. It's a simple cash-grab is all.

Likely too much confusion.  Those were never really true elder scrolls games, considered spin-offs.  However, its not like they're making any money from them.  I don't know why they couldn't have included them.  Not sure the price is right.  Dagerfall is free and they have to assume anyone who is going to buy this is at least going to have one of the ES titles.  Suppose its like a collectors edition thing though.

They're doing it in preparation for the launch of Elder Scrolls Online. It's simple marketing: get people interested in ES titles and then hit them with ESO.

CCNA said:

Thing is, Battlespire and Arena are not TES games in the same way that the rest are.

In fact, of all the games in the series, those are the least liked. Battlespire just had MP before most offered it.

Ah yes good catch, I'd forgotten about ES:O.  I wonder, if that means they'll turn the game into a money dump.  I can see it now "Oh yea, you get the whole game if you buy it once...but not the expansion packs...and not the minor dlc...and you can't change your apperance without paying...and you only get 2 inventory spaces to start with...and you have to sign your soul to us before you play...".  Not that I've ever seen this kind of behavior with MMOs before...  :chinscratch:

If Zenimax goes the free to play route, you can bet they'll charge for things like that, Wolf.

I greatly hope that ES:O goes the Guild Wars route and you only pay for the game and maybe some little knick-nacks in the store. It also being released on X-Box One and PS4, has increased my hope that this is the case b/c (unless Zenimax are big scum-suckers) I don't think the console people would like paying their online/multiplayer fee and an additional subscription fee on top of that. So to me, the Guild Wars pricing seems like it could happen. If it is free-to-play, then I hope that their is some way of earning in-game enough in-store currency to buy the extra stuff, like was seen in LOTRO, where I could earn my extra bag or limitless gold just by doing the achievements in game.

But.. Arena and Daggerfall are still free to download on the ES site. A good way to snag the new and/or uninformed consumer, I suppose.

They may be free, but they don't include a DOS emulator. The anthology does and installs it for you. :D

And the virtual ones aren't physical disks to show that you own the game ;)

Honestly I don't think the whole thing is going to go too well.  Sure, you'll get a few sales but, come on lets be honest.  How many people do you think would ever be interested in playing a game before Oblivion in today's age?   And how many of those people do you think haven't already played MW, Arena, and Daggerfall?  I just don't think this will appeal to a lot of people.

But it's such an easy download. It requires less effort than manually installing most mods. Ah, well. I guess some people are willing to pay to save themselves a few minutes of work, a la Comcast offering to install your modem and router for like $100.

....Which is why they need to include some updated graphics. It'd at least give them a little wiggle room to justify the price.
