Gren wrote:Probably for the same reason that, when you watch a movie or read a story, you don't usually see the characters using the bathroom. When we write a story, we almost never write down every single thing that a given character does, because mundane life, attending to necessities like the need to scratch an itch, the need to move one's weight from one foot to the other when standing still, tying laced shoes, doing the dishes, etc, just isn't all that interesting. Not only aren't there any sinks for washing dishes, but usually there aren't any buckets for retrieving well-water, nor any faucets at all in homes, etc. It's not interesting enough to be used by players (average players) regularly to be worth "spending" polys/loading times on.

Sewers have a function in the game as places for people to hide out, for rats to hang out (so lower-level players have something to fight in the cities), to find crappy loot to sell (again, for lower-level players), etc. If they didn't have that function, they wouldn't be in the game (is my guess).

As game-makers, they have to always remember the economy of the size of the game versus what features will be the most enjoyable for the greatest amount of players.

true, but I find if the characters in a story or game do normal functions which are in society today, it makes it more relate able I guess.
And the consumption of er, well, yeah I guess that would work, but..eck

one question.....in morrowind there are buckets(or bottles if you prefer) in nearly every house ......why do you think that they placed those buckets?????????........

and if you check the history books........the only places that had "toilets" where big castles....and that weren't even toilets but just dome holes above the moat
so technically there are toilets  in-game

ooh don't mind me newbie talkin :D

I'm aware of Dug outs, they have been used in china for along time as well, but you see generally the buckets are supposed to be used for gathering the water in the cities well(s) (if its a large enough city multiple). Thus again contaminating your water :\ But I guess this would work if instead you only used bottles for the well, but then you would need to modify the bottles to work with the well.

There aren't any barbers, manicurists, children, seeds, visible seasons, holidays and many other things. For some of them, such as children, there was a specific reason for leaving them out. For the rest, Bethesda didn't consider them important and didn't want to work on making Morrowind an 100% functional world, remaking the whole game a lot on the way to keep up with the latest gaming technology, and finally finishing it in 2076. Hence why there are no bathrooms, and a lot of other things, in Morrowind.

Sex was left out because Bethesda wasn't making an adult-oriented video game. :P

ok i have a question, if Vivec is supposed to be one of the largests cities, where are all of the people, and where are their houses. The city of Vivec has like 7 actual houses, wth.

There are more "houses" in the canal works of various cantons. Not nearly enough for all the supposed inhabitants though. Although, some shopkeepers have quarters by their shops.

One thing of note though, people don't really NEED houses, as you can find them at work at all hours, night or day.

True that was probably one of those details they looked over because it didn't seem absolutely necessary to the cause, but its still noticeable and I think if it bothers you enough there is a mod which is vivec expanded, giving more merchants, housing, npc's in general, etc.

What about the term "the golden years"? This might very well be the first necromanced thread in this forum. (Correct me if I'm wrong). I can see that I chose the right mouth. And if anyone is wondering what Davada and Jac are talking about, it's a soft-deleted post, meaning that only we moderators can see it.
