Console Issues

So, I have a modded Morrowind install going. If needed I can provide load order and such, though I don't think it will be needed. Anyways, when I try to use the console, when ever I type it just does the hotkeys in game than actually typing. That is, the game isn't paused at all, typing "w" makes me move forward, typing "e" opens the inventory, etc. As you can imagine, this makes it quite difficult to type commands. In fact, its impossible to type some letters, such as e, or asdw, or any key that is also a hotkey in game. Does anyone have a solution to this? I am using MCP 2.2 and MGE XE, and the 4GB patch along with quite a few mods, in particular I have the skyrim UI mod, which could be the culprit?

I've never seen anything like this. Just to be certain that when you press the console key it opens the console, bu tit will not let you type your commands? That is very odd, and as far as I know it very well might be new behavior. Have you tried unticking the Skyrim UI mod, and seeing if that changes anything? I use all three of the third party programs that you are running, and do not have any issues (though my console use is for testing purposes only) Which version of MGExe are you running? it might have something to do with your issue too. Did you have the old MGE running with this setup at one time with the console disabled? You used to be able to do that in MGEs predating xe. Are you running Steam Morrowind?
I'll look around the webternetz, and see if I can dig something up. I won't promise anything though, but I'll look.

Everything is a fresh install and download as of writing the first post. Skyrim UI is a textures and ini only mod, no .esp. I no longer thing it is at fault, it is simply a collection of textures and some changes to the fonts in morrowind.ini. It is steam Morrowind with the latest of the 3 utilities too. The only issue I have with MGE XE is that shaders don't work (I probably did something wrong).

I can get the console to work if I hit esc and go to the menu and then open the console. But otherwise if I just hit tilde and start typing, any letter that is also a hotkey does the hotkey rather than typing the letter, and as I said before the game doesn't actually stop when the console is opened unless I pause it by going to the menu (Save, Load, Options, Exit..).

On a side note, I play in bordered windowed mode, and when ever I start morrowind the window does not adjust to the top left of the screen, rather it moves to the right and part of it goes off the screen, which means I have to readjust the window every time I start morrowind. Is there any way to get it to auto justify to the top left of the screen?

You need to make sure you have the console window active before start typing in the console.

Should you not have the console window active then just click on the console bar where the "Console" text is or press the key that bring up the console a second time.

Then press the same key a third time to get the console window active.

It is active. I can type other letters just fine. I just can't type any letters that are hotkeyed in game unless I manually go to the menu first because the menu pauses the game.

Edit: Well, It shouldn't be an issue now as I am reinstalling everything. In my previous install I ran MGSO, up to the point that it was stupidly trying to force me to redo all of my patches and redoing the load order and generally messing a lot of stuff up, taking control of my computers input is also incredibly shifty and it was totally broken. So I canceled the install and deleted killed MGSO with fire. I don't know if that is what was causing my console issue, but I did have some missing meshes in game that I am guessing were from MGSO. To save future headache involving anything else MGSO messed up, I decided to reinstall everything.

Thanks for the help though.

I was going to say that they are constantly monkeying around with MGEex lately, and the latest version might have some buggyness to it. Plus also the Steam version of Morrowind is known to take issue with MGE (though I've only heard about it not playing nice with the overlay active). Perhaps reverting back to a former version of MGE might be a temporary fix.

Hmm, other than shaders not appearing to work I didn't notice much going wrong with MGE XE. My fov didn't change either. So, I guess there were some issues. But, the game was definitely playable and without crashes. Coming back from skyrim where removing crashes is an impossibility, I was content with morrowind.

Welp, The same console issue exists on the new install as well. It isn't so bad, I just have to open the options menu before I use the console.
