Anyway, earlier today I discover that Redwoodtreespite's modders permission site are now a defunct site, for the moment parked as a *free* site.

Which means that we only have the permissions database on MMH as a refence from now on.

I've already contacted Monica21 at AFK Mods, yes she joined there a while back, about correcting the last link here.

I am modding, otherwise, it has been reasonably slow, lots of new members but it appears they are just here to look or spam

Seems like most get the idea that GHF is shutting down,  I didn't glean that from Flig's post   Possibly I'm wrong    Hopefully I am not wrong
to me this is probably the last bastion of Morrowind Forum's, it has endured and looking at other places (Beth forum and Nexus excluded) this is the most active, that I know of  ??

I originally bought and played Morrowind on the Xbox many years ago, and saw an advertisement on my phone for the game on PC. I've followed the path of many of you from eager player to a busy worker and ended up putting the game aside for many years. I've just built a high end gaming rig and the first game I put on it was Morrowind.... Not a game that needs the speed but I've been dying to get back into it and after reading a lot of reddit feeds i heard about the modding scene. I was very happy to find your site and a bit sad to see that it is being slowly shuttered. I'd like to thank everyone who has had a hand in putting all this together for us and for those who will come after us!!! I've been medically retired and so I plan on scouring the site and enjoying the work of many modders. Thank You!!!!!!

Wow it's been a while.  

As mentioned above, sadly all good things will eventually come to an end.  Think all we can do now is look back on our experiences and appreciate where we've gone from there.  I don't think I can even look at my 13 year old self's comments across this forum for fear of what it would do to my self esteem but thank you to all for tolerating it regardless.

I think it's important to point out that Morrowind in general is not dead and even the modding community is still alive and well.  It's just that anyone younger than me has never registered on a forum other than reddit and huge corporations have taken over modding communities (the nexus, steam workshop, etc.)

Gaming in general has gotten....too cinematic for my tastes.  I did get into Dragon's Dogma recently as it was re-released on PC a couple years ago.  I would recommend to everyone here.  It's a deeply flawed game no question but so was Morrowind really.  ESO is worth playing through - at least the vvardenfall content, they were very respectful to the existing lore and hit me in my nostalgia bones.  Enderal, the Skyrim total conversion and sequel to Nehrim, is one of the best gaming experiences I've had since Morrowind.  Subnautica is nothing like any of these games but I just have to throw it out there because I really enjoyed it.

I'd actually tried my hand at game development in general for a bit working with both Unity and Unreal.  Finally decided it was too much work, but I did get some basic physics implemented from scratch which was fairly satisfying (took me months to sort out the issues and remember C++/C#).  Still not really sure what I'm going to do with the rest of my life - I'm now living on my own 2 years out of college and in a comfortable position financially with my current career (engineering) but not sure I want to do it for the rest of my life.  I guess we'll see where the wind takes me.

Anyways, just wanted to give one last update.  Maybe I'll check in again in a few years but who knows.  My best to all the regulars here and to the morrowind modding community in general.  It's easy to forget that the internet wasn't always like it was now.  I wish we could go back to a time before the echo chamber of reddit, the aggrandizing nature of social media, and ever-increasing regulations (thank you politics....).

If GHF goes down, I hope it gets preserved in some fashion. Because there's details/hints there that are not included anywhere else.

This is actually something I've been thinking a lot about lately.  

I don't think most people have really latched on to the fact that data has to be stored somewhere.  There is this kind of assumption that once something is on the internet it just kind of exists indefinitely.  

The internet has only been around for the last 15-20 years, it's not just in its infancy its still in the womb.  Google and other datacenters have been able to keep up with the influx of content with their obnoxious data-centers (which one day will use more electricity than all households combined) but eventually we're going to need to address the fact that data storage is not magic.  Additionally, even if we could keep an indefinite amount of content, there will eventually be so much that it will be virtually impossible to find the majority of it at which point it mine as well not exist.

Anyways, it's not really a current problem but I think in the next 30-50 years it could be quite the disaster.  Which content stays, which content goes?  Who gets to upload new content and who doesn't?

The internet started around 1985 or so.... but, it was all just text-based bulletin boards. It's been around for a while, and has grown quite a bit since it's beginnings. Technology has also advanced a LOT in the intervening years... and storage has gotten dirt cheap. I can remember when 80 MEGABYTE drivers were north of a 100 bucks..... These days, you can get a couple terrabytes for the same money.

Still and all, data does disappear. Gaming sites tend to come and go. In all reality, I am pleasantly surprised that this family of sites has survived as long as it has. Fliggs life has gone thru some major changes since the site first went online. As have all of ours. (some more dramatic than others.) I would love to see this place hang around for the foreseeable future......

I'm a web developer and Morrowind is my second home for the last 20 yrs. I would like to help keep these modding treasures available for everyone. I don't know if you've already made the site changes, but using something like WordPress and a few great plugins you could create a site quickly, cheaply, and have a lot of control over how it looks and it's capabilities. I could help with that if you'd like.

Thanks for the response...there and Open Morrowind seem the most active. It's hard to believe I've been playing the game for 18 years. I might have to try and work out how Discord works also. Again thanks!
