That sword is amazing, Dongle!  And you wonder why people think of you as a legend?  Only because most of us can't even DREAM of crafting something like this!

I mean, YOU SERIOUSLY ROCK, DONGLE!   :punkrock:  :punkrock:

(Capital "D" most definitely intended!)

Heh, I just noticed your title dongle. :P believe what you will XD

I really like the sword by the way. I bet it could easily be tied into the lore as a daedric artifact too.

Beautiful.  Sometimes simple sentiments say it best.  :sheo:

So is this a resource as well, or is it being created as part of a larger mod?  I ask because as I was reading through this thread the scripting wheels in my head started spinning....

It'll just be a mesh for you guys to do whatever you want with. If I get started on scripting again. . . .

If you've ever read the books:
The place Elric finds the sword, an underworld cavern with walls of pulsating flesh, sounds very like the tops of the Oblivion towers where you shut the gates. Something to keep in mind if anyone does a real Stormbringer mod. The sword steals souls, and gives him energy. That should be easy to do. Then, it needs to take the souls of folks Elric cares for. Maybe, require you kill an NPC in your faction? Then, it needs to take Elric's own soul. Be kind of a funny way to end it, kinda like a troll mod. Really enticing and cool looking, but ultimately worthless.  :D

But, I'll let you all be the judge of that.

latendresse76, thanks so much for the offer. In the end I remembered how hard it is to move stuff between Max versions, so I had to just re-install v4.2.

I like how you made a shadowbox for the weapon. I should do that with more of my stuff. Do you have any idea if it's a performance hit to just use the mesh of the weapon itself as opposed to a simplified one?

I would imagine so. It's gonna have to render each polygon twice then. Not the textures, but the polys.

What I do is take the line tool and do a rough trace of the shape. The Stormbringer one has 28 points. Then extrude it into a box a couple units high. 108 polygons total, vs 3,400 for the sword itself.

Thanks dongle, I think I might try that on the new dagger chainy and I made. And I'm just about to test that sword out myself. I'll update this post when I do :D

For the sake of sticking with the lore behind it, I have the beginnings of an idea for a script.  Once each day, it could force the first NPC you encounter that has a disposition greater than 90 immediately attack you.  And if you kill them with something other than the sword, the next NPC matching the criteria will attack you; it will continue until you kill them with this sword.  Of course then it starts over again tomorrow.  :sheo:

Yep, disposition is a great way to do it.

Mournblade is the twin of Stormbringer, and wielded by Elric's adversary. (There are actually many of these demon blades in the books, but these are the only two named.) It would be easy enough to do a Mournblade by just swapping the one glow decal. We could have each NPC that attacks auto-equipped with a Mournblade. Then the rune-blades could be made epic, but the NPC vs Player rune-blade-fights would always be balanced.

Maybe auto-equip Stormbringer on the player too, with a messagebox saying it is the sword's idea to attack? Or, is that too much control over the player?

MessageBox "Evil Message" -> short delay -> auto-equip SB on player -> short delay -> auto-equip MB on NPC -> short delay -> Start Combat

Of course, we don't mention any of this in the mod write-up, just that an epic sword is available for free in a convenient cave someplace. (tee-hee)

Only trouble might be a rogue player-character, where nobody likes them 90%. Or a level one character, that hasn't had a chance to make friends yet. Or even just a Redoran who happens to be hanging out in the Telvanni areas. We don't want to deliver a mod where nothing at all happens for a long time.

I suppose there is no way to grab an average of all NPC dispositions?

Maybe mod the required disposition based on player fame?

Maybe at some random time, noon say, poll all NPCs in the loaded area, and grab the highest one? (I forget if that's possible?)
